INFORMATION AND REFERRAL: Provides information and referral for housing, attendant care, education, employment, recreation, health care, legal services, architectural barrier removal, SSI/SSDI, transportation, adaptive technology, and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Also offers referrals to agencies and resources for planning and directing one’s own services.
PEER MENTORING: Individuals work with Independent Living Specialists (ILS) to help set achievable goals and strategies to achieve these goals. Peer counseling can be provided individually or in a small group setting.
INDEPENDENT LIVING SKILLS TRAINING: Teaches individuals skills necessary for acquiring, maintaining, or increasing their independence such as budgeting, safety, employment readiness, etc. Training may take place in individually or small group setting; in the home or community.
ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY: Assists individuals with purchasing and/or repairing of equipment such as hearing aids, stair glides, wheelchair ramps, etc.
TRANSITION SERVICES: Assists young adults with disabilities into higher education, the workforce, and the community. Also assists people with disabilities move from nursing homes and other institutions back into the community and supports those at risk to avoid entering.
